Cooked Caramel FrostingDesserts
1 cup light brown sugar In a saucepan combine brown sugar, 1 tablespoon Crisco®, corn syrup, and 1/2 cup milk. If using a candy thermometer, cook syrup to 235°. Or, bring syrup to a boil; then simmer over medium heat for 15-20 minutes until a few drops of boiling syrup in very cold (but not ice cold) water can be formed into a ball that flattens when removed from the water. In a bowl, combine 1/3 cup Crisco®, confectioners' sugar, 1/4 cup hot milk, vanilla, and salt. Add hot syrup and beat until creamy. Frosting will thicken as it cools. Frosts two 8- or 9-inch layers or a 13x9-cake.
